PenLife Associates, Chartered Financial Planners, has appointed Niall McSharry as Protection and Insurance Specialist, reinforcing its protection proposition as part of the firm’s continued strategic growth across Yorkshire.
Niall joins the firm with experience spanning insurance claims, mortgage advice and specialist protection planning, bringing a technically informed perspective to the role. He began his career
in 2016 at NFU Mutual, working as a Claims Handler within the equine and pet claims team. This early exposure provided insight into the claims process and the importance of policy suitability, underwriting accuracy and expectation management at the point of claim.
Following the Covid-19 pandemic, Niall moved into estate agency with Bridgfords Estate Agents, where he was introduced to the advisory side of financial services. After completing his Certificate in Mortgage Advice (Cert CII), he transitioned into a Mortgage and Protection Adviser role, developing broader experience across client risk profiling and holistic financial advice.
He later joined Fenton Simpson Financial Services, where he specialised in personal and business protection. During this period, Niall developed a particular focus on protection planning, working closely with insurers on underwriting considerations and structuring solutions for more complex client scenarios, including business protection and higher-risk cases.
“Protection advice is most effective when it’s built on robust risk assessment and clear prioritisation,” said Niall. “There is no one-size-fits-all solution. My role is to help clients and financial planners understand how protection fits within a wider financial plan, ensuring recommendations are practical, sustainable and aligned with long-term objectives.
At PenLife, Niall will work closely with the firm’s Financial Planners to ensure protection advice is fully embedded within the financial planning process, supporting both personal and corporate clients.
Deborah Jacobs, Director at PenLife Chartered Financial Planners, said the appointment reflects the firm’s focus on depth of expertise:
“As client needs become increasingly complex, dedicated protection expertise is essential. Niall strengthens our proposition and supports our ability to deliver high-quality, well-structured advice that underpins long-term financial resilience.”
