Chartered Banker Institute Appoints Tanya Retter FCBI as CEO to Lead Next Phase of Professional Banking Education

The Chartered Banker Institute, the world’s oldest professional body for bankers, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tanya Retter FCBI as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 July 2025.

The announcement was made at the Institute’s 150th Annual General Meeting on 26 June 2025. Paul Denton, Chair of the Board of Trustees and current Institute President, commented:

“We are confident that Tanya’s leadership will guide us through a period of thoughtful transformation—balancing growth, relevance, and trust in an evolving sector.”

Tanya brings over two decades of experience in financial services, including senior roles at NatWest and RBS, where she led learning and capability teams focused on leadership development, digital transformation, and customer and employee experience. Since joining the Institute in 2023 as Executive Director of Education, she has played a pivotal role in reshaping its global education strategy.

Her journey through the Institute—as a student, member, client, Fellow, and senior leader—gives her a unique and personal connection to its mission. This blend of practitioner insight and strategic foresight positions her to strengthen the Institute’s role as a trusted partner in banking education and a champion for values-led, responsible, and sustainable finance.

Tanya is also the first woman to be appointed CEO in the Institute’s 150-year history—a milestone that reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to inclusion and progress within the profession.

On her appointment, Tanya said:
