JM Finn Expands York Wealth Planning Team as Demand for Financial Advice Grows

Wealth management firm JM Finn has expanded its York office with the appointment of Jacob Parsons as Wealth Planner, citing continued growth in demand for financial planning advice.

Parsons joins the firm as a Chartered Financial Planner and will work alongside JM Finn’s investment management team in York to provide clients with more joined-up financial planning and investment advice.

His appointment reflects a wider shift across the wealth-management sector as firms increasingly combine investment management with broader financial planning around retirement, tax, inheritance and long-term wealth structuring.

Demand for holistic advice continues to grow

JM Finn has said demand for financial planning services has continued to increase, making the addition of a dedicated Wealth Planner in York a logical next step.

The move allows the firm to integrate financial planning more closely with its existing investment-management proposition.

For wealth managers, this joined-up model is becoming increasingly important.

Clients are increasingly looking for advice that considers investments alongside pensions, tax, estate planning and wider family wealth objectives rather than viewing portfolio management in isolation.

That is changing the way traditional investment-management businesses structure their client propositions.

Yorkshire experience

Parsons brings five years of experience working with independent financial advisers and previously spent 12 years serving in HM Armed Forces.

He qualified as a Chartered Financial Planner in 2025 and is also a Fellow of the Personal Finance Society.

His areas of expertise include retirement planning, inheritance-tax mitigation and wealth structuring.

He is based in North Yorkshire and will operate from JM Finn’s York office.

Investment management and planning converge

The appointment is particularly relevant to Yorkshire’s wider wealth-management market.

Across the sector, investment managers are increasingly strengthening financial-planning capabilities as clients demand broader advice around long-term financial decisions.

The distinction between investment management and financial planning has therefore become less pronounced.

A client may initially engage with a firm for portfolio management but increasingly expect support with retirement, tax, intergenerational wealth and estate planning.

For firms, providing those services within one relationship can strengthen client retention while also increasing the depth of advice offered.

Talent becomes increasingly important

The appointment also highlights the growing competition for qualified financial-planning professionals.

As demand for advice rises, firms face the challenge of recruiting experienced Chartered Financial Planners and developing the next generation of advisers.

That issue is particularly relevant in regional markets such as Yorkshire, where wealth managers, IFAs and national advice groups are all competing for experienced professionals.

JM Finn’s decision to strengthen its York team reflects confidence in the regional market and the continued demand for financial-planning expertise outside London.

A wider shift in wealth management

The move follows a broader trend within the UK wealth-management sector towards combining financial planning and investment management more closely.

For advisers and wealth managers across Yorkshire, that development has strategic implications.

Firms able to offer joined-up advice may be better positioned to support clients through increasingly complex decisions around retirement, taxation, inheritance and family wealth.

JM Finn’s latest appointment therefore represents more than a regional hire.

It is another example of how the wealth-management model is evolving as financial planning becomes a more central part of the client proposition.
