Leeds-headquartered wealth management firm Redmayne Bentley has appointed Pete Donaldson as Head of Financial Planning as it continues to expand its financial planning operations.
Donaldson brings more than 30 years of experience across wealth management and financial planning and joins Redmayne Bentley from Mattioli Woods, where he served as Regional Director.
His previous roles include senior positions at AFH Wealth Management and Fairstone Group, as well as almost 17 years with HSBC, where his responsibilities included strategic wealth distribution and transformation.
The appointment comes as Redmayne Bentley places increasing emphasis on the growth of its financial planning proposition alongside its established investment management and stockbroking services.
Financial planning becomes a greater strategic focus
Founded in Leeds in 1875, Redmayne Bentley is one of the city’s longest-established financial services businesses and continues to operate its head office from Wellington Place in Leeds’ financial district.
The firm provides financial planning, investment management and stockbroking services to private individuals, intermediaries, companies, charities and trusts.
Donaldson’s appointment reflects the growing importance of holistic financial planning within the wider wealth management market.
Clients increasingly expect advisers to consider pensions, investments, taxation, estate planning and longer-term family objectives together rather than treating investment management as a standalone service.
For established wealth managers, this is placing greater emphasis on combining investment expertise with comprehensive financial planning.
Experience in adviser growth and integration
Donaldson’s previous roles give him significant experience in growing financial advice businesses.
At Fairstone Group, his responsibilities included supporting the onboarding and integration of financial advice firms and developing professional partnerships across the UK.
He subsequently joined AFH Wealth Management as Commercial Director before moving to Mattioli Woods.
His appointment comes at a time of considerable change for the financial advice industry, with consolidation continuing across the market while firms also compete for experienced advisers, financial planners and younger professionals entering the sector.
Redmayne Bentley’s decision to strengthen its financial planning leadership suggests organic growth will remain an important part of its strategy alongside its established investment management business.
For Yorkshire’s financial services sector, the appointment also represents further investment in senior financial planning expertise within Leeds, which remains one of the UK’s largest financial centres outside London.
